PJS is thrilled to be co-presenting the Lyric Lane Jazz Festival with Jess Herbert. 3 nights of incredible local jazz! On Friday May 27th you can catch:

6-7pm: Turiya

Featuring highly esteemed musicians, Michelle Smith (harp), Kate Pass (double bass) and Talya Valenti (drums), Turiya melds genres including jazz, pop, RnB, and classical, providing a rare opportunity to see the harp explored in a modern jazz setting. Since the recent conception of this project, the trio has played sold out shows at The State Theatre Centre, and appeared at York Jazz Festival, Jazz by the Beach, Hidden Treasures and Courtyard Club in 2021.

7.40-8.40pm: 'I Am Like The Rain' The Music of Paul Simon

Australia’s leading musicians present their album of reimagined Paul Simon works “I Am Like The Rain: The Music of Paul Simon”. Released in July 2020 on ABC Music, and recently a finalist for the Jazz Bell ‘The Sounds of Silence’, ‘Graceland’, ‘Mrs Robinson’, ‘50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’ – Paul Simon has one of the richest and most-loved catalogue of songs of any songwriter who ever lived. I Am Like the Rain, reimagines these iconic works, with gorgeous late-night arrangements that celebrate Simon’s artistry while revealing new aspects to these songs you’ve heard a hundred times before.

9.20-10.20pm: Pete Jeavons Nonet

The Pete Jeavons Nonet primarily draws on the music of American jazz luminaries such as Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and Oliver Nelson to name a few. Repertoire also includes some compositions by Australian jazz musicians/composers including one or two penned by Jeavons himself. All the music is arranged by Pete Jeavons specifically for this nine piece line-up. Featuring a stellar line-up of Perth jazz talent, this promises to be an evening of high energy, top quality jazz.
